Welcome from our Director

Dear friends, 

I write this report of the year past with great excitement for the year that is, with the great African musical artist Angelique Kidjo about to visit Athens as this year's Delta Visiting Chair for Global Understanding. I have been thinking all year of the humanities and arts as finding joy in community, and as I looked back through the last twelve months I was confirmed in recognition of the culture of success and inclusion you have all brought to the University of Georgia. The evidence is here, from the Guggenheim Foundation to the Mellon, from the mentorship of graduate students to projects built with care and insight. I hope you'll enjoy reading about the work we all do as much as we enjoyed doing it.       

This year, as every year, we share a long list of awards, books, essays, grants, fellowships, projects, performances, and installations. I’d especially like to thank all our colleagues in the Office of Research for their support, and our Board of Friends, who continue to respond so generously to our Director’s Fund. This will build a new endowment for the Willson Center’s future, and if you’d like to give please do. As you can see, we put everything to good use.
